Import and export collections

How the file is laid out

Collections are matched by ID, then Handle. Like products, a collection can use several rows: its details — Title, Body HTML, Sort Order, Image Src, SEO — go on the first row, and every row can carry one condition or one product. Put the Handle on every row.

Smart collections

Use Rule: Product Column, Rule: Relation, Rule: Condition and Must Match (all conditions or any condition) — for example Tag · is equal to · summer. Shopify's names (VARIANT_PRICE, GREATER_THAN) and symbols (>) work too.

The conditions in a file replace the collection's conditions. Conditions on metafields or categories are exported, but can't be created or changed from a file.

Manual collections

Use Product: Handle or Product: ID, one product per row. Listed products are added and the others stay; in Replace mode the list becomes the collection's whole product list. Unknown products are skipped with a warning.

Good to know

• A collection can't switch between smart and manual, or have both conditions and products.
• Changing an existing collection's handle or image isn't supported.
• New collections aren't published to sales channels automatically — publish them in Shopify admin.
• Undo deletes created collections, restores fields and conditions, and puts removed products back.
